This is a statue dedicated to Mohandas Karamchand (Mahatma) Gandhi, the father of independent India and non-violent resistance. As it turns out, the day I posted this photo is the 70th anniversary of the March to the Sea, when Indians marched to the sea to extract salt as a means of protesting government actions and the monopoly it held over the salt trade.
